A True Community Event
As always, the real heart of MatchWorks Pako Festa was reserved for our communities. Some of these groups have been Pako Festa participants from the very start and celebrated their 26th Pako Festa with us this year.
They represented countries including Croatia, Holland, the Philippines, Greece, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Finland, Lithuania, Portugal, China, Italy, Spain, Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Wales and Ukraine.
The Pako team also welcomed members of the Bulgarian community joining us for the first time this year, they participated in the parade and also in the fashion parade. We also welcomed the Iranian community who served up some great, traditional foods for the crowds to sample. While the Thai community participated in Pako Festa last year, this was the first time they hosted a food stall – so tempting treats awaited all the way down Pakington Street this year!
Finally, Pako Festa was pleased to be an “access-friendly” event. Working in conjunction with the Geelong Region’s Inclusive Events Planning Group, we provided activities and services for people of all abilities, and from every part of our community.
